Address: Baslow Road, Ashford-in-the-Water, Derbyshire.
Are you hungry for history and fascinating stories? Thornbridge Hall in Derbyshire has a lot to offer for history lovers. From the 12th century until the late 18th century, Thornbridge Hall was a home to the Longsdon family. In 1790, the estate was sold and the next owners enlarged and rebuilt the house a few times. In 1945, Thornbridge Hall was bought by Sheffield City Council in order to turn it into a teacher training college. A few years later, in 1997, the Hall was given back into private ownership by the Hunt family. And finally, in 2002, the Hall became a family home for Emma and Jim Harrison who have made lots of efforts to restore and develop the house and the gardens.
Thornbridge Hall is surrounded by 14 acres of formal gardens. The Gardens, first opened to the public in the 1930’s, are divided into different areas. Italian Garden, Water Garden and Koi Lake, Cascade Garden and Kitchen Garden. The Gardens are peppered with three temples, numerous sculptures and statues. And the new garden will be created soon – the Jaipur Garden that will be devoted to Emma and Jim’s wedding in Jaipur, India.
