There is something special about old country pubs, isn’t there? They are brimming with character features and rural charm. They tell you the story about the past and inspire you to think about the future. They are places that bring local communities together. They usually offer dishes made from seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. And mostly, they welcome with open paws your four-legged friends!
The Swan is a 16th-century country pub in Ascott-under-Wychwood, a small and picturesque village, located in close proximity to Chipping Norton, Burford and Charlbury. Ascott-under-Wychwood, along with nearby Shipton-under-Wychwood and Milton-under-Wychwood, is the village named after the ancient forest of Wychwood. The pub is the right place if you want to rest and refuel after a long walk with your dog around Oxfordshire.
The Swan is a part of the Lionhearth, Cotswold Pub Group that runs a few pubs and inns in the area and aims to create traditional and welcoming venues. Wooden beams and floors, open fires, solid wooden furniture and a friendly atmosphere. Outside, there is a pretty courtyard garden to enjoy your meal in the sun. On the main menu: Wild mushroom & orzo risotto, spinach, truffle oil (£18); Goan king prawn curry, pilau rice, cashew, flat bread (£18); Kelmscott Farm Cumberland sausage ring, kale, mash, Barros port sauce (£19).
