Great news from the National Trust! Heritage Open Days, an annual celebration of history and culture, returns and you can visit many of the National Trust places for free between 6 and 15 September 2024.
Below is the list of our favourite dog-friendly National Trust places that are offering free access on some specific days in September (remember that dogs are allowed only in the grounds and gardens, but not in the houses).
1. Heritage Open Day at Charlecote Park in Warwickshire.

An impressive 16th-century Charlecote Park in Warwickshire has a fascinating story to tell. This story is about a few generations of the Lucy family who owned the land since 1247. It is hard to believe, but it is still the home of the Fairfax Lucy family. Charlecote Park covers about 185 acres and offers lots of opportunities to explore for dog walkers. The main tourist attraction is a landscaped deer park, where deer roam freely all year round. Now you can see about 200 deer in the parkland, sometimes hiding in the long grass.
Doors are open for free for Heritage Open Days on 13 September 2024.
2. Heritage Open Days at Belton Estate in Lincolnshire.

The Belton House was built between 1685 and 1687 by Sir John Brownlow, an English Member of Parliament, and remained in the hands of this wealthy dynasty of lawyers, the Brownlow family, for nearly 300 years! Belton House now is an amazing place to spend the whole day out with your family and a four-legged companion. Explore 1,300 acres of picturesque parkland with an ancient deer park and woodland, take a stroll around formal gardens of Dutch and Italian design, or pop into the Orangery with a goldfish pond.
Doors are open for free for Heritage Open Days on 14 and 15 September 2024.
