The Bell, the newest addition to Daylesford Organic’s pub collection in Oxfordshire.

Address: 1 Church Street, Charlbury, Oxfordshire, OX7 3PP.

Preserving the past for a more sustainable future. We absolutely love this concept of Daylesford Organic’s pubs. When historic pub buildings are carefully restored, keeping all striking features and unique character. When dishes are cooked using seasonal organic produce, fresh and full of flavour. When dogs are not only tolerated, but treated as a part of the family and warmly welcomed with open paws.

The Bell is a dog-friendly 17th-century pub and a part of Daylesford Organic’s collection, among The Wild Rabbit in Kingham, The Fox at Oddington and The Three Horseshoes in Asthall. Conveniently located in the heart of the market town of Charlbury, the Bell was built around the 1600s and has been an inn since then.

It was reopened in September 2023 after a beautiful restoration that kept lots of its original features: exposed oak beams, fireplaces, flagstone floors and the original Stonesfield slate roof.

On the menu: Wootton organic chicken Milanese, aioli, salad of chicory and fine beans (£28), 8oz Hereford ribeye steak, fries, garlic and herb butter, watercress and pickled onions (£39), Pea and chanterelle risotto, pea tendrils, 20-month aged Grana Padano (£24).

What we love most about this dog-friendly pub is that it has a variety of dining spaces to offer, including front and rear terraces, tastefully decorated dining areas and a large orchard garden about an acre in size. On warmer days, that green plot with wooden tables, benches and chairs is the perfect spot to drink cocktails or eat pizza in the sunshine.
