The Tudor House Hotel, a recently renovated dog-friendly historic hotel in Gloucestershire.

Address: 51-53 High Street, Tewkesbury, GL20 5BH.

For those who want to make their holiday extra special and memorable, we recommend without doubt to stay at historic hotels that can transport you to a different era. They offer more than just a place to stay. Unique architectural charm, cozy atmosphere and quirky interiors are the striking features of historic hotels.

The Tudor House Hotel, in the heart of the market town of Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, dates back to 1546. It is one of the most distinctive and historically important buildings in the town. It was turned into a hotel in 1926 and kept lots of original features like 300-year-old oak beams, open fireplaces and even a priest’s hole.

There are some bone-chilling stories about ghosts in the hotel, like a drummer boy and a grey lady, but fortunately, we didn’t encounter them.

The hotel is conveniently located to explore Cheltenham or Gloucester. Or you can just leisurely stroll the streets of the charming town of Tewkesbury situated at the confluence of the Rivers Severn and Avon. I bet you didn’t know that in 1964 Tewkesbury was chosen by the Council for British Archaeology as one of 51 British gem towns that were thought to be ‘particularly splendid and precious’. The 900-year-old Tewkesbury Abbey is just 15 minutes walk away and dogs are welcome with open paws in there!

The hotel has 25 bedrooms unique in shape and size. We stayed with our cockapoo Winnie in a Standard Double Room in a small annex, with a separate door outside.

The Tudor House has been part of The Coaching Inn Group since 2021, a hotel operator which has a passion about transforming historic coaching inns into charming hotels, keeping their original character with the utmost care, but adding some modern touches at the same time. All rooms are clean and freshly renovated to a high standard. That was our second stay at hotels of the Coaching Inn Group and we like the lovely features presented at every hotel of the group: a Roberts radio gently playing music as we arrived, a yellow rubber duck in the bathroom, a small bookshelf with a couple of books, and a coffee machine. Do we recommend the hotel to stay with a dog? Yes!
