Belton House, the ‘perfect English country house estate’ in Lincolnshire.

Address: Grantham, Lincolnshire, NG32 2LS.

Have you watched the BBC programme ‘Hidden Treasures of the National Trust’? The programme was about beautiful historic houses in the UK, stunning art collections, craftsmanship, and people saving Britain’s heritage. Belton House was one of the locations featured in episode one.

Belton House is a Grade I listed country house near Grantham, Lincolnshire and one of the dog-friendly National Trust properties. The House was built between 1685 and 1687 by Sir John Brownlow, 3rd Baronet, an English member of parliament. Belton House became a seat to that wealthy dynasty of lawyers, and remained in the hands of the same family, the Brownlow family, for nearly 300 years!

But like many other wealthy English families of that time, they faced financial difficulties and couldn’t find ways to finance their property. Therefore, the 7th Baron Brownlow opened the estate to the public. An adventure playground was built to attract families to the house. However, in 1984, because of ongoing financial problems, the decision to donate the house and most of its collections to the National Trust was made. The trust introduced new features and attractions to fund repairs and conservation.

Belton House now is an amazing place to spend the whole day with your family and a four-legged companion. Explore 1,300 acres of picturesque parkland with an ancient deer park and woodland, take a stroll around formal gardens of Dutch and Italian design, pop into the Orangery with a goldfish pond, have fun in the National Trust’s largest outdoor adventure playground. Or visit the House that will impress you with its interiors and a world-renowned collection of art, silver and books. We also absolutely loved old stables transformed into a dog-friendly Stables Café. Amazing idea and stylish design, good place to rest and refuel.
